Chicks are shipped USPS Priority Express and typically take 2 to 3 days in transit. Delivery is not guaranteed overnight.
Shipping live chicks carries risk. Once shipped, conditions during transit are outside of our control.
We do not offer refunds or replacements for chicks once they have been shipped.

Buying Swedish Flower Hen chicks is a little dangerous if you're the kind of person who likes collecting “just one more color.”
Because good luck with that.
These chickens can come in a ridiculous range of colors and patterns, with the characteristic white-tipped feathers that give the breed its flowery appearance. Raise a group together and you can end up wondering how the hell all of those chickens came from the same breed.
That's exactly how they're supposed to be.
Swedish Flower Hens, or Svenska Blommehöns, are a Swedish landrace with plenty of personality to go along with all that variation. They're curious, active, generally pleasant birds with a habit of paying attention to whatever you're doing.
We know this particularly well because we have Sheila.
This listing is for unsexed, day-old Swedish Flower Hen chicks from our breeding flock.
The Swedish Flower Hen gets its English name from the white tips or mottling on the feathers that can give the plumage a scattered, flower-like appearance.
What that does NOT mean is that there's one correct Swedish Flower Hen color.
There isn't.
You can see reds, blacks, browns, blues, and other shades and combinations throughout the population, along with considerable variation in pattern. Some birds may also be crested.
That's one of my favorite things about raising them. You start with a brooder full of chicks, and then everybody gradually decides what they're going to look like.
Nobody asked you.
They're also a nice middle ground for people who want chickens with personality but don't necessarily want tiny feathered stalkers.
They'll investigate. They'll come see what you're doing. They may follow you around for a while. cough Sheila cough
Then something more interesting happens in the grass and you're yesterday's news.
Honestly, I respect that.
You'll receive unsexed, day-old Swedish Flower Hen chicks from our breeding flock.
And before “Hen” gets interpreted as a promise: Swedish Flower Hen is the English name of the breed. The word “Hen” does NOT mean the chicks you're ordering are female.
These chicks are sold straight run, so your order may contain pullets, cockerels, or both. We cannot guarantee the sex or sex ratio of your chicks.
We also don't select chicks according to what we think their adult color, pattern, or crest will be. Some characteristics change considerably as chicks feather out, and part of raising Swedish Flowers is watching the final bird slowly show up.
Newly hatched chicks can rely on nutrients remaining from the absorbed yolk sac during their first days of life, which is what makes shipping day-old poultry possible.
Once your chicks leave us, USPS controls the route, handling, and delivery timing. Weather and delays can also affect a live shipment. Please only order shipped chicks if you're comfortable with those realities. We do not offer refunds or replace chicks that do not survive the journey.
We don't look at a Swedish Flower Hen flock and think, “How do we make all of these match?”
That would ruin half the fun.
The range of colors, patterns, crests, and individual differences is part of the population we're working to preserve. We're breeding for healthy, functional birds while respecting the natural variation that comes with the landrace rather than narrowing everything down to whichever color happens to photograph best.
Our flock participates in the National Poultry Improvement Plan and is A/I Clean under participant #31-1508, Tina Hines. The birds shown in our photos are our actual birds, so you can see some of the variation within the flock your chicks are coming from.
We don't offer public farm visits, but we're happy to share photos and flock updates.

Hatch day doesn't always respect quantities.
If we have additional healthy chicks available and there's room to safely include them in your box, we may send extras. They're never guaranteed, and occasionally an extra may be from another breed.
If you're currently thinking, “Absolutely do not surprise me with a random chicken,” leave us a note at checkout.

Once your order is confirmed, we reserve incubator space and add your hatch to our schedule. Cancellations made more than three weeks before the scheduled ship date receive a full refund.
Cancellations within three weeks of the scheduled ship date are subject to a $10 non-refundable preparation fee because we've already committed resources to your hatch.

We participate in the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP), meaning our breeding birds are tested and monitored under state and federal disease-control standards. We take biosecurity seriously—because healthy chicks start long before hatch day.
