Chicks are shipped USPS Priority Express and typically take 2 to 3 days in transit. Delivery is not guaranteed overnight.
Shipping live chicks carries risk. Once shipped, conditions during transit are outside of our control.
We do not offer refunds or replacements for chicks once they have been shipped.

Icelandics are what happens when nobody tells the chickens they're supposed to match.
Different colors. Different patterns. Different combs. Crests sometimes show up. Some birds look like they belong together, and others look like they met in the parking lot five minutes ago.
That's part of the appeal.
Icelandic chickens, also known as Íslenska hænan or Landnámshænan, are an old Icelandic landrace with roots going back to the country's settlement era. They're active, curious birds with a reputation for foraging, exploring, and making full use of whatever space you give them.
This listing is for unsexed, day-old Icelandic chicks from our breeding flock.
Icelandic chickens have been part of Iceland's agricultural history for centuries, traditionally tracing their ancestry to chickens brought to the island by early settlers.
They weren't developed around a breed standard that dictated one correct feather color, comb, or overall appearance. That's why an Icelandic flock can look like somebody assembled it from several completely different breeds.
Color and pattern can vary tremendously. Comb types can vary. Some birds may be crested while others aren't. Even birds from the same breeding flock can grow up looking remarkably different from one another.
If you're accustomed to breeds where the name gives you a pretty good idea what the adult chicken will look like, Icelandics are going to keep you guessing.
We consider that a feature.
Icelandics can also be surprisingly capable flyers compared with heavier chickens. That's worth knowing before you assume the fence that contains everybody else will automatically impress them.
They like to move. They like to investigate. And they tend to make better use of space than chickens whose primary daily ambition is relocating from the feeder to a slightly different patch of dirt.
You'll receive unsexed, day-old Icelandic chicks from our breeding flock.
These chicks are sold straight run. We do not select pullets from cockerels before shipping, so your order may contain females, males, or both. There is no guaranteed sex ratio.
We also don't offer chicks according to future color, pattern, comb type, crest, or other appearance.
At one day old, you're buying an Icelandic.
The rest is going to introduce itself later.
Newly hatched chicks can rely on nutrients remaining from the absorbed yolk sac during their first days of life, which is what makes shipping day-old poultry possible.
Once your chicks leave us, USPS controls the route, handling, and delivery timing. Weather and delays can also affect a live shipment. Please only order shipped chicks if you're comfortable with those realities. We do not offer refunds or replace chicks that do not survive the journey.
With Icelandics, trying to make every bird look alike would completely miss the point.
We're interested in maintaining the diversity of the landrace, including the wonderfully mixed-up collection of colors, patterns, combs, and other traits that can appear within a flock. Appearance is part of the variation, not the entire breeding goal.
We also care about the stuff that's harder to capture in a product photo: healthy birds, reproduction, behavior, and the functional characteristics that have kept people interested in Icelandics for generations.
Our flock participates in the National Poultry Improvement Plan and is A/I Clean under participant #31-1508, Tina Hines. The birds shown in our photos are our birds, and although we don't offer public farm visits, we're happy to share flock photos and updates.
Chickens are notoriously bad at producing exactly the number of chicks written on my order sheet.
If we have healthy extras available and can safely add them to outgoing boxes, your order may arrive with an additional passenger or two. Extras aren't guaranteed, and occasionally an extra may be another breed.
If an unexpected breed would ruin your day instead of improve it, leave us a note at checkout.
Once your order is confirmed, we reserve incubator space and add your hatch to our schedule. Cancellations made more than three weeks before the scheduled ship date receive a full refund.
Cancellations within three weeks of the scheduled ship date are subject to a $10 non-refundable preparation fee because we've already committed resources to your hatch.

We participate in the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP), meaning our breeding birds are tested and monitored under state and federal disease-control standards. We take biosecurity seriously—because healthy chicks start long before hatch day.
