Chicks are shipped USPS Priority Express and typically take 2 to 3 days in transit. Delivery is not guaranteed overnight.
Shipping live chicks carries risk. Once shipped, conditions during transit are outside of our control.
We do not offer refunds or replacements for chicks once they have been shipped.

Some chickens look at winter like it's a personal insult.
Hedemoras are more like, “Is that all you've got?”
These Swedish landrace chickens come from the area around Hedemora, where generations of birds lived in a climate with long, cold winters. They're compact, heavily feathered chickens with a generally calm disposition and a surprising amount of variation hiding underneath the name.
And if you think “Hedemora” describes one specific color or feather type, you're about to have some fun.
This listing is for unsexed, day-old Hedemora chicks from our breeding flock.
Hedemoras developed around the town of Hedemora in Sweden and are one of the country's preserved landrace chicken populations.
What makes them especially interesting is how much variation can exist within the breed.
Hedemoras can come in different colors and patterns, and their feathering can vary too. Some birds have normal smooth feathering while others can have the unusual wooly feather type associated with the landrace.
In other words, ordering Hedemora chicks doesn't mean ordering six matching chickens.
Good.
Matching chickens are overrated anyway.
Their cold-climate history is absolutely one of the reasons people seek out Hedemoras, but cold-hardy doesn't mean winter-proof.
They still need appropriate shelter, ventilation, unfrozen water, adequate nutrition, and protection from severe weather.
They're chickens.
Not tiny feathered snowplows.
You'll receive unsexed, day-old Hedemora chicks from our breeding flock.
They're sold straight run, so we aren't separating pullets from cockerels before they leave here. Your chicks may grow up to be females, males, or a combination of both, and there is no guaranteed sex ratio.
There's also no choosing your future birds by color or feather type at one day old.
Part of raising a naturally variable landrace is getting to watch what develops.
And Hedemoras can keep you guessing for a while.
Newly hatched chicks can rely on nutrients remaining from the absorbed yolk sac during their first days of life, which is what makes shipping day-old poultry possible.
Once your chicks leave us, USPS controls the route, handling, and delivery timing. Weather and delays can also affect a live shipment.
Please only order shipped chicks if you're comfortable with those realities. We do not offer refunds or replace chicks that do not survive the journey.
One of the things we don't want to lose with Hedemoras is the variation.
Different colors. Different patterns. Different feather types.
Those differences are part of the population we're working with, not an inconvenience we're trying to breed away so every chicken photographs the same.
We're interested in maintaining healthy, functional Hedemoras while preserving the diversity that comes with the landrace.

The birds shown in our photos are our birds. We don't offer public farm visits, but we share flock photos and updates so you can see the chickens behind the chicks you're ordering.
We plan our hatches.
The chickens remain unconcerned with our plans.
If we have additional healthy chicks available when your order is packed, we may tuck an extra chick or two into your box. Extras aren't guaranteed and may occasionally be another breed.
If you'd rather not receive another breed as an extra, leave us a note at checkout.
Once your order is confirmed, we reserve incubator space and work your hatch into our schedule.
Cancellations made more than three weeks before the scheduled ship date receive a full refund.
Cancellations within three weeks of the scheduled ship date are subject to a $10 non-refundable preparation fee because we've already committed resources to your hatch.

We participate in the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP), meaning our breeding birds are tested and monitored under state and federal disease-control standards. We take biosecurity seriously—because healthy chicks start long before hatch day.
