Cluck It All Farms Nesting Herb Blend

Do chickens need nesting herbs? Nope.

Probably a terrible way to start a product description for nesting herbs, but there you go. 😂

W use them anyway because they smell really freaking good, and our girls like picking through them while they're hanging out in the nest boxes. It gives them something interesting to peck at besides the nesting material, and we get to enjoy opening a freshly cleaned nest box that smells like herbs instead of, well... chickens.

That's really why we made our own blend. No promises of magical chicken aromatherapy. No pretending a handful of dried herbs is going to solve every problem in your coop. Just a simple mix of herbs and flowers that we genuinely enjoy using in our own nest boxes.

What’s in Our Nesting Herb Blend?

We blend lavender, oregano, rosemary, peppermint, and chamomile. Together, they make a fresh, herbal blend with just enough floral scent to make the nest boxes smell nice without making the coop smell like somebody attacked it with air freshener.

The different leaves, stems, and flowers also give curious hens something to investigate while they're sitting in the box. Mine pick through them, move them around, and generally conduct whatever important chicken business apparently requires rearranging everything I just cleaned.

Because of course they do.

How to Use Nesting Herbs

Start with clean nesting material and sprinkle about 1 to 2 tablespoons of Nesting Herb Blend over the top. You can add a little more whenever you clean or freshen the nest boxes.

That's it.

You don't need to bury the nest in herbs or measure them with laboratory precision. A light sprinkle throughout the nesting material is plenty.

Your hen does not require a botanical ball pit.

Which Size Should You Get?

Our Nesting Herb Blend comes in two sizes: 3 oz and 8 oz.

The 3 oz bag is a good place to start if you have a smaller flock, only a few nest boxes, or just want to see whether nesting herbs earn a permanent spot in your coop-cleaning routine.

The 8 oz bag makes more sense if you have several nest boxes, multiple pens, or already know you're going to use them regularly. It's also the one I'd grab if you're the kind of person who discovers something smells good and immediately starts sprinkling it everywhere.

Good to Know

The herbs in our blend are chicken-safe, so don't worry if your hens decide to taste-test the nest box. Ours absolutely do. They're not intended to replace a balanced diet, but pecking at and nibbling the herbs is perfectly fine.

Several of the aromatic herbs in this blend are also traditionally used around coops and animal housing because their natural compounds may help make the area less inviting to certain pests. We consider that a nice bonus, not a treatment plan. Nesting herbs aren't a substitute for actually checking your birds for mites or lice and treating an infestation appropriately if you find one.

Mostly, we use them because they smell really good and Our hens enjoy picking through them. If the herbs make the nest box a little less appealing to creepy-crawlies too, we'll happily take it.

Nesting herbs aren't a feed or a replacement for a balanced diet. They're just something extra for the girls to investigate while they're hanging out in the nest box.

Keep the bag sealed and stored somewhere cool and dry between uses to help protect the scent and keep moisture out.

And because nesting herbs sometimes get marketed like tiny bags of poultry witchcraft, ours are not intended to treat or prevent mites, lice, illness, or other health problems. If you've got an actual flock-health problem, deal with the actual problem.
