A Historic Landrace from the North – Hardy, Independent, and Full of Character
Icelandic chickens, known as
Íslenska Hænan or
Landnámshænan, are a
rare and ancient landrace breed that has thrived in Iceland for over
1,000 years. With their
strong foraging instincts, unique feather patterns, and extreme cold-hardiness, these birds are a fantastic choice for
homesteaders, conservation breeders, and free-range setups. Recognized as
threatened by the Livestock Conservancy, adding Icelandics to your flock helps
preserve a piece of poultry history.
