Sometimes you hand your chickens a whole head of cabbage and call it enrichment.
The Farmer's Market Chicken Veggie Ball makes that slightly more civilized. Open the latch, load it with a head of lettuce or cabbage, and either set it on the ground or hang it up for your flock to peck at.
Instead of leafy greens getting immediately dragged through the dirt and stomped into something unrecognizable, the wire ball keeps them contained while your chickens work their way around it.
Will they still make a mess? They're chickens. Let's manage our expectations.
Open the latch and fill the ball with a head of lettuce, cabbage, or appropriately sized pieces of vegetables. Close it securely, then place it on a clean, relatively flat surface or hang it where your flock can comfortably reach the food.
If hanging, make sure the ball and whatever you're hanging it from are secure and positioned so your birds can peck comfortably without becoming tangled in the hanger.
Rinse thoroughly after use and wash with mild soap as needed. Let it dry completely before putting it away or filling it again.
Vegetables and other extras still count toward your flock's treats, so keep them to no more than 10% of the overall diet. A complete, balanced poultry feed and fresh water should always be available.
