The Hen Couture® Denim Hen Saddle gives hens protective back coverage in actual denim, complete with a tiny functional pocket. It helps protect the back from feather picking and rooster spur damage during breeding while elastic wing bands keep the saddle securely in place.

Is the pocket necessary?

Absolutely not.

Denim Protection for Your Hen

This isn't just chicken fashion. The denim saddle covers the hen's back where repeated mating or pecking can cause feather loss and skin damage.

An elastic band on each side slips behind the wings to secure the saddle while allowing normal movement. The standard size is designed for most average-sized hens.

Sizing

The Hen Couture® Denim Hen Saddle comes in one standard size designed to fit most average-sized hens. It may not fit bantams or very large chicken breeds.

Fit the individual bird rather than relying on breed alone. The saddle should lie securely over her back without pinching, rubbing, or restricting normal wing movement.

How to Put It On

Gently restrain your hen and position the denim saddle over her back.

Slip one elastic band behind each wing so the saddle rests securely in place. Check that the elastic isn't pinching the skin and that your hen can move her wings normally.

Check the saddle and the skin underneath regularly. Remove it if you notice rubbing, irritation, damaged elastic, or a poor fit.

If your hen has an active wound, treat the injury appropriately rather than simply covering it with the saddle.

Care

Clean the saddle as needed and allow it to dry completely before putting it back on your hen. Inspect the denim, seams, and elastic regularly and replace the saddle if it becomes worn or damaged.

Check the care label on your saddle before machine washing, as published care instructions for this product are inconsistent.
