Looking to build a flock with beautiful, hardy, and unique heritage chickens? Our HEN PICKED Chicks box includes 10 day-old chicks, randomly selected from a variety of six remarkable heritage breeds. Whether you’re drawn to cold-hardy egg layers, stunning feather patterns, or excellent foragers, this selection guarantees a diverse and exciting flock.

What Breeds Might You Receive?

Each order contains a carefully selected assortment of these six incredible breeds:

• Swedish Flower Hen – A friendly, sociable breed that lays 150-200 cream to light brown eggs per year. Cold-hardy and moderately heat tolerant. (Hens ~5 lbs, Roosters ~6 lbs)
• Hedemora – Exceptionally cold-hardy and calm, Hedemoras lay 150 creamy white to beige eggs annually, sometimes speckled. Often broody and excellent mothers. (Hens ~4 lbs, Roosters ~5 lbs)
• Swedish Black Hen (Svarthöna) – A rare, all-black breed that lays 100-150 small to medium light brown eggs per year. Intelligent, alert, and moderately heat tolerant. (Hens ~3 lbs, Roosters ~4.5 lbs)
• Shetland Hen – A small but friendly Scottish breed that lays 150-200 pale tinted to blue or green eggs per year. Cold and heat tolerant, great for free-range environments. (Hens ~2-3 lbs, Roosters ~3.5-4.5 lbs)
• Icelandic – A hardy, independent landrace breed that lays 150-180 medium-sized white to cream eggs per year. Broody, reliable mothers who thrive in free-range settings. (Hens ~3.5 lbs, Roosters ~5 lbs)
• Ölandsk Dwarf – One of the smallest heritage breeds, weighing only 1.5-2 lbs. These tiny but mighty foragers lay 100-160 small cream to tinted eggs per year and are incredibly cold-hardy.

Chick Ordering & Shipping Details

• Shipped at One Day Old – Chicks are shipped unvaccinated and ready to start their journey in their new home.
• Straight Run Only – Chicks are sold unsexed, so their genders will be a fun surprise as they grow.
• Box of 10 Chicks – Each order contains 10 randomly selected chicks, giving you a variety of heritage breeds.
• Safe, Express Shipping – Chicks ship on Tuesdays via USPS Priority Express at a flat rate of $75, ensuring they arrive quickly and safely.
• Local Pick-Up Option – Pick up your chicks in person at our designated off-site location on the advertised ship date.

• NPIP-Certified & A/I Clean – Our flock meets National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) standards under participant #31-1508 (Tina Hines).

With HEN PICKED Chicks, every order brings variety and excitement! Whether you're expanding your flock or starting fresh, this hand-selected assortment of heritage breeds will bring beauty, diversity, and personality to your backyard.

Before You Order:

We start preparing your hatch as soon as your order is confirmed. That means reserving incubator space and putting your hatch on the schedule.

If you cancel more than 3 weeks before your scheduled ship date, there’s no fee and we’ll issue a full refund.

If you cancel within 3 weeks of your scheduled ship date, a $10 non-refundable prep fee will apply. At that point, your eggs have likely already been set, and we’ve invested time and resources into your hatch.

We’re not a factory farm and every chick matters. Thanks for understanding and helping us do this the right way.
