Swedish Black Hen Svart Höna Hatching Eggs

The Bohuslän-Dal's Svarthöna stands out with its striking black coloration that goes beyond feathers, encompassing the comb, wattle, beak, legs, and even the skin. It's as if they're adorned in an elegant, all-black ensemble. The hens flaunt a typically smooth feather structure, although you might come across some with a touch of fluffiness.

Here are some facts about this breed before you decide to add them to your coop.

  • Country of Origin: Sweden
  • Weights: Hens ~3 lbs, Cocks ~4.5 lbs
  • Average Number of Eggs/Year: 100-150
  • Egg Color: Light brown
  • Egg Size: Small to medium
  • Personality: Alert, intelligent, and somewhat aloof
  • Broodiness: Occasionally broody
  • Climate Tolerance: Cold hardy, somewhat heat tolerant

Adding to their allure, you might occasionally spot a white individual among them. Their combs and wattles are not just black; they can also display a beautiful reddish-purple shade, enhancing their unique appeal.

Ready to welcome some new peeps to your coop? Here's the scoop on how to order: Simply pick the week you'd like your eggs to arrive. We ship them out between Monday and Wednesday of your selected week. You'll receive tracking info as soon as it's available, so you can eagerly anticipate their arrival. If there's a specific day you need your eggs by, please mention it in the note section at checkout. We're here to ensure your egg-citing journey is as smooth as can be! Our eggs are priced per dozen, and we are dedicated to delivering them fresh to your doorstep.  And rest assured, we pack each egg with utmost care to prevent breakage during transit.

We only ship to US addresses, and packages are sent via USPS Priority Insured or Express for added security.  If you would prefer your eggs are held at your local post office, please leave a note in your order.

Now, we often like to add a few extra eggs to your order when we can. But you know how it is with Mother Hen – sometimes she has her own agenda, so extra eggs are a happy bonus, not a guarantee.

We're not just any farm – we're a proud participant in the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP), and our flocks are avian influenza (A/I) clean. Our NPIP certification, under the vigilant care of Tina Hines, boasts the participant number 31-1508.

Here's a little heads-up: shipping hatching eggs is a bit like rolling the dice. We do our best to pack them for a safe trip, but we can't make promises about the condition of the embryos when they arrive. Detached air cells can happen, and so, a 100% hatch rate isn't something we can guarantee. But don't worry, especially if you're new to hatching eggs – we've got plenty of guidance and are always here to help with your queries.

Our flocks are a bit like celebrities – no public appearances for their health and safety. But we love sharing their world with you through photos and video chats! And if you're nearby and prefer to pick up your eggs, let's arrange a meet-up at an off-site location. It's all part of the Cluck It All experience!

*Disclaimer: Hatching eggs and the success of hatching are influenced by various factors beyond our control, such as incubation conditions, handling during shipment, and individual hatchery practices. While we strive to provide the best hatching eggs possible, we cannot guarantee specific hatch rates or the outcome of your hatching experience.
